Demoze after her heart surgery

Health Care

The children of Addis Ababa receives virtually no medical care. In one case, a young girl had lost her hearing and was going deaf due to untreated ear infections as a child. In another case, we met a young girl who had untreated strep throat as a child, this resulted in rheumatic fever and ultimately, rheumatic heart disease. At the age of 12, she was given the life expectancy of 16 years. Fortunately with the help of New York University Hospital and Dr. Steven Colvin, this child was sent to the U.S. Her life has been saved. Today she’s a happy teenager residing on the grounds of Safe House Ethiopia.

Please take a look at the photos of her Demoze receiving treatment, and of how great she looks today!

These are but some of the medical issues we face with our children. It is the intention of the organization to open a full time clinic with a registered nurse (scheduled to open in January 2008). This facility will hopefully catch many of the health issues that children face before they become life long problems.
